Recorded and released in 1955, West Coast Jazz would even focus on the East Coast-West Coast Controversy, which was a hot button topic in jazz circles. The pickup band that greeted him featured a great rhythm section: Lou Levy (piano), Leroy Vinnegar (bass), and Shelly Manne (drums), along with Conte Candoli (trumpet). These musicians connected with Getz immediately, having crossed paths previously. Impressed with this lineup, he took them into the studio to record West Coast Jazz. This album was recorded for Verve at the Radio Recorders studios in Los Angeles. The first six tracks are what were released on the original album, with the remainder from the two sessions added as bonus tracks in subsequent releases.
