Substitute Teaching in Juvenile Detention
James Nugent
This booklet is full of my personal opinions. The purpose of the booklet is to inspire discussion. You must carefully make your own choices and pay your own consequences for the professional decisions you make in a juvenile detention facility. My opinions are based upon my experiences for the last 33 years as a regular teacher, and a counselor. I have also occasionally work as a substitute teacher in juvenile detention. Also one of my majors in undergraduate school was in Criminal Justice. What follows should not be interpreted as an endorsement or condemnation of the juvenile detention system. If you ever work there you will make your own judgments. It is very unlikely that you will ever influence or change the juvenile justice system. It is what it is.
