The Awesome Canning Cookbook

Canning can be simply defined as a method of food preservation. Food preservation was often practiced, in earlier times, for survival. In times of war and migration, people would preserve their food in jars and makeshift cans, so that they would have an ample supply of sustenance in the event of an emergency. In the British Empire times, canned food was mainly for those who belonged to the Royal Navy or to the army. They needed preserved food during times of war due to the nature of their circumstances and their environment. In times of war, families would store canned food in bomb bunkers and in their safe houses so that in the event of a bombing raid, or worse, they would be able to survive within their safe spaces. Radical religious groups would store canned food as well, in their bunkers, so that they would have a substantial food supply when the Apocalypse or Armageddon occurred. Sailors would also preserve their food in cans so that they would have a reliable food supply during their time away at sea, which would often be for weeks, months, or even years. People would preserve their foods with long periods of time in mind; they would plan their food with years in mind, not just days or weeks. As time went by and civilization experienced advancement, food preservation became an industrial thing. Factories and other industrial places would use heavy-duty machines to can food in a tin or steel-coated containers. The same machines would be used to seal the containers airtight. This was done to ensure that no form of bacteria would be able to access the food. Nowadays, canning can be done in the comfort of your home. Canning has made its way into popular culture and people are taking advantage of this method of food preservation. Materials are easy to access and a number of tutorials and guides have been produced to help people can their food effectively from their kitchens. People don't need to have highly complicated machines or dangerous materials in order to can foods of their choice from home or their personal workshops. Manufacturers have noticed that canning is popular among families, so child-safe containers and sealing kits have been produced to ensure that no unfortunate accidents occur. Canning involves the preservation of cooked or uncooked food by placing and sealing it in an airtight container. The container is often in the form of tin-plated and/or steel coated in lacquer. The purpose of this form of preservation is to ensure that the contained food will remain in a 'fresh' and consumable state for a longer period of time than it would in an unpreserved state. The food has to be opened with a can opener or any other mechanism designed to open the sealed can. If you want to know more about canning recipes, then this is the book for you!
