Christmas is approaching, and private investigator Geneva Pomolo is spending a blissful week at a local bed and breakfast. But her hopes of a few idle days spent reading and relaxing are shattered by a scream in the night. A woman stumbles into her room with a strange tale of ghostly apparitions and a phantom figure clutching his severed head. Geneva dismisses the story as the ravings of a fantasy-prone woman, but soon it becomes clear that the bed and breakfast is crowded with more ghosts than a Dickens novel. As if that weren't enough, Geneva is drawn into the mystery of the recent death of a famous songwriter-viciously cut down during the week leading up to Christmas, his body stashed in a Christmas tree lot. Ashton Wiles was a famously reclusive millionaire who suffered from severe agoraphobia and rarely left his apartment. He wouldn't seem to have any enemies, yet Geneva's investigation turns up no shortage of suspects. As the case progresses, she suspects there may be a connection between the death of the millionaire, a recent bank robbery, and the ghosts that haunt the bed and breakfast. With Christmas approaching rapidly, it's up to her and her partner, Iris Reeves, to catch the culprit before death itself catches up to them.
