When Margaree Ford Marlin was a very young girl, she encountered racism in her neighborhood. There was a difference in the living conditions between herself and her white playmate. Margaree also noticed that the two of them rode different school buses and went to different schools. There were many other things that she observed about the African American-Caucasian relationship. Whenever she asked why such disparities existed, she was told, "That is just the way things are here in the south under Jim Crow law." She was not happy with that answer so when the opportunity presented itself, she worked to make a difference by working for racial justice in Montgomery, Alabama. the segregated south. of the civil rights' movement in Montgomery, Alabama. This book of poetry highlights her story.
