Will Rogers - A Biographical Monologue
Acie Cargill
Will Rogers was possibly the most popular person of his generation. His homespun wisdom and humor was swept across the country in his writings and speeches and of course, his immensely popular movies. He was earning 200,000 dollars per movie which was a lot of money in the 1930's. Most Americans still had rural backgrounds and they loved the realness Rogers projected to them. They couldn't identify with much of the urban sophistication portrayed in many movies, but they flocked to see Will Rogers. This biographical monologue play mixes Will's own description of his life with his short observations of the life going on around him. He was one of a kind. There has never been anyone like him before or since.
